Must Have Beauty Buys

With Christmas over and the New Year around the corner, these little beauty finds make a wonderful addition to your beauty regime. They also make a fab little gift for that someone who you just don’t know what to buy for!

k.hall designs Peony hand & body cream ~ Every year in the spring time I look forward to filling my house with the delicate scent of peonies. Recently I found the perfect hand cream that leaves my hands soft with a delightful fragrance all year round. Rich with shea butter, aloe leaf juice and other fine ingredients. This cream contains no animal products, petroleum bases or parabens. The best thing is you only need a small amount and it smells delicious.

Cargo Lip Gloss in “Tokyo”~ I have been searching for a long time for a red lip gloss that could be worn all year round, day or night. I recently was given this gloss and instantly fell in love. I love how it’s ultra moisturizing, long-lasting  and gives your lips a dazzling shine. I can be worn alone or on top of your favorite lipstick. I will be wearing this to ring in the New Year!

Dermalogica Overnight Repair Serum~ I absolutely love Aromatherapy and this serum smells heavenly. Chalked full of age fighting ingredients like Aragan and Rose oil, fine lines are smoothed away. Free of artificial fragrances and colors, this is a perfect addition to your night-time moisturizer. In the winter months I even add a few drops during the day.

Philosophy Purity made simple~ This fragrance-free one-step facial cleanser is a make up remover, cleanser and toner all in one. It’s hydrating and doesn’t leave the skin feeling tight or dry. This cleanser is perfect for everyone, even the guys will like it too!

Smith`s Rosebud Salve~ This handy balm works magic in so many ways. Not only does it relieve dry chapped lips, you can use it on any skin irritations. I love using it during my at home manicure to soften and moisturize my cuticle. If you love roses as much as I do, then you have to grab one of these tins today.

Butter London 3 free Nail Lacquers~ I love these nail lacquers. Not only do they add some holiday glitter to your wardrobe. They contain no formaldehyde, toluene, DBP, color or carcinogens! My favorite this season was Chancer, it was perfect for Christmas and reminded me of Dorothy’s ruby slippers from the Wizard of Oz. There are many colors in the collection that are a Must Have.

Bumble and bumble Thickening Serum~ This leave-in treatment actually works! It thickens and leaves you with stronger, fuller hair. I have curly hair and it added volume to my roots. I applied 4-6 pumps at my roots, put my hair in a bun and left it on over night. It has a clean, light citrus scent.

Deborah Lippmann Luxurious Nail Color~  My favorite nail color is Bad Romance. When you need to accessorize why not start with your nails. Luxurious nail color enriched with aucoumea, biotin and Green Tea. Free from formaldehyde, toluene and dibutyl phthalate. Check out all the other amazing colors, they’re the perfect way to add a little bling to your little black dress.

St Tropez Self Tan Bronzing Lotion~  This product gives you that sun-kissed glow, making you look like you just came back from vacation! Not only is this lotion easy to apply, it does not leave streaks and gives you a golden tan. Say good-bye to orange and hello to a bronzed goddess. I love the body polish and moisturizer too.

Dermalogica Solar Defense booster spf 30~ Even with the winter weather here, protecting your skin from harmful rays is still extremely important. I love the way this sunscreen contains no artificial fragrance or color. It adds a boost to your skin and can be mixed with your favorite foundation or worn alone. It’s a wonderful moisturizer without being too heavy, making it great for all skin types.

Sara Happ The Lip Scrub Brown Sugar~ This scrub works great to exfoliate the lips, leaving them kissably soft. With light and dark brown sugar crystals blended together with Jojoba and Grape seed oils, you will have a perfectly prepped pout. The best is the product reminds me of freshly baked goods, who doesn’t love brown sugar!

Milk_Shake Conditioning Whipped Cream~ What’s not to love about this, it’s dessert for your hair. This leave-in conditioning and protective foam for all hair types smells like a vanilla milk shake. I apply it to my hand and it comes out like whip cream from the can! It has a light texture and leaves my hair silky smooth. I love applying it to my hair when it’s wet, creating a braid and leaving it over night to air dry. In the morning I undo the braid and Voila, beautiful waves.

Depend Instant lash and brow color~ I had no idea that dying your lashes and brows at home could be so easy, I would have done it years ago. Seriously, this little kit makes it so easy and it only takes three minutes. I was able to control how dark they went and the color lasted for weeks! This is perfect especially if you change your hair color and decide to go darker!

Behind the Lens!

I recently had the pleasure of speaking with Sascha Mazzucco. Originally born in Amsterdam, his family moved to New York City at a young age and he now resides in Montauk, NY. The son of fashion photographer and renowned painter, Raphael Mazzucco and the talented photographer Lisa-Marie Mazzucco, one could say that Sascha was exposed to the arts at a very early age.  At only 17 years old, Sascha already has a natural way about capturing beauty and drawing you into his work.

From the moment I saw his work I was very intrigued to hear more about what inspires him and how he knew that he wanted to be a photographer. He told me that three years ago he received a camera as a birthday present. He ventured out into New York City, snapping photos of the scenery and people, and it wasn’t long before he realized he had a “knack for it”.

Sascha’s  inspirations continue to be Raphael Mazzucco (his dad), Annie Leibovitz and Damien Hirst to name a few.  When asked about what he looks for when preparing for a shoot (inspiration), he replied, “taking time to himself to find the right background scenario. One that will tell a story and capture the moment.”  Raw beauty was about bringing versatility to his shoots. Being able to capture beauty in many different forms, from rigidness to a softer, sensual side.  One word he would use to describe himself, he replied “Spontaneous”.

Sascha has already photographed 2011 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Cover Girl, Irina Shayk and his work also includes shooting for Blue and Cream clothing store.  He is an outgoing individual with a creative eye and you can see that he truly loves what he does. With a big, bright future ahead of him, I can’t wait to watch his story unfold.

Raising the Bar on your Workout

I have learned over the years how important it is to stay active. Not only does it give you optimal health and increased energy, it keeps your skin in great shape too. Staying active with combining weights and cardio, you reduce the chances of weight fluctuations which can cause stretch marks and elasticity loss. I feel exercise is crucial for maintaining a clear complexion and fighting the signs of aging, not to mention important for treating and preventing osteoporosis. Exercise improves your bone health, increases muscle strength, coordination, balance and simply leads to better overall health.

Ever since I was little I have always wanted to be in ballet and have been in love with all types of dance and music. Over the years I have tried various workout routines ranging from running, walking, weight training and more. It was recently that I stumbled upon the Bar method workout.

The Bar Method combines yoga, pilates and ballet into a floor and barre-based regime of fat burning interval training, muscle shaping isometrics and dance conditioning. At first I wasn’t sure if it would work or if I would get a good workout. Needless to say this little workout kick my butt in a very good way. Within the first 10 minutes I was feeling the burn and by the end of the hour my legs were JELLO. We won’t even talk about how hard stairs were the next day!

I want to say a big thanks to Carolyn at The Bar Method Vancouver for letting me experience this wonderful workout. Not only are the instructors amazing, they encourage you to push your boundaries and are there helping you each step (or lift) of the way. They even loan the dvd workouts to their members when going away on a work trip or vacation, making it very accessible to stay on track. The studio in Vancouver is beautiful and such a treat to go to. The change rooms are great and fully stocked up with everything you need to freshen up after a class. This is perfect whether you go first thing in the morning before work, on your lunch break or on your way home at the end  of the day. I love the way this workout creates a lean, sculpted body. I highly recommend The Bar Method.

Gourmet Skin Care

They say it’s all about the eyes! If that’s true we should do everything we can to protect them, from big giant sunglasses to a rich hydrating eye cream. Every skin care line now a day has an eye cream; one to brighten, one to moisturize, one for fine lines, etc. There always seems to be so many to choose from. I would try different brands, but they were either too heavy or I felt that they didn’t really do what they say they would. At times my eye cream would be non-existent in my skin care regime.

But then  I discovered  Yum 23 Karat Intensive Eye Treatment and was immediately hooked. It’s has a light non-greasy texture and can be worn day or night. It blends well and has a slight scent that reminds me of gingerbread. It’s perfect for under your concealer and nourishes the delicate skin around the eye. Natural ingredients like luxurious, calming Calendula, Seabuckthorn and Organic Sunflower instantly refresh and encourage elasticity and smoothness. Fine lines were softened right before my eyes.

Italian Inspired Beauty

Going to Italy is on my bucket list! There are so many things about this stunning place that I can’t wait to experience, from the amazing food to the gorgeous country side. There is so much beauty to explore! I came across some beauty products recently from Principessa Beauty that are rich in texture with heavenly scents~ completely Italian inspired! I was lucky to be introduced to the founder Trish Lucarino, an amazing woman that brings passion and truth to every thing she creates.

Right off the bat I fell in love with the products, they captivated my senses and I was immersed in total bliss. The first product I was introduced to was the “Bacio Me” lip balm. It is perfect to fit in you purse, as well as a “Must Have” for travelling on long flights. With this soothing, non-greasy balm, your lips will be kissably soft. It also comes in a slanted tube “Bacia Me” for easy and quick application. It’s perfect over top of your favorite lip stick!

Next is the “Cattiva Diva” silky hand cream. The bottle says that all you need is a pea size amount, I thought I would see if what they said was true. Honestly I tried it and they were right. Not only is this cream ultra moisturizing, but it had a delicious scent. With sweet almond oil, aloe vera and vitamin E, you’re sure to become addicted with one application. Not to mention it smells like cotton candy.

Last but surly not least, the Dry Shampoo. This little baby is perfect for all occasions from your vacation, your wedding day and every event in between. It’s even perfect for every day use in between washes. It comes in 2 shades, “Bianco Breeze” & “Notte Breeze“. Both can be used for any color of hair, you just have to make sure that you deposit onto your hand first then add to your roots. I had never tried a product like this before and now can’t live without it.

All these products are paraben and sulfate free!
