Raising the Bar on your Workout

I have learned over the years how important it is to stay active. Not only does it give you optimal health and increased energy, it keeps your skin in great shape too. Staying active with combining weights and cardio, you reduce the chances of weight fluctuations which can cause stretch marks and elasticity loss. I feel exercise is crucial for maintaining a clear complexion and fighting the signs of aging, not to mention important for treating and preventing osteoporosis. Exercise improves your bone health, increases muscle strength, coordination, balance and simply leads to better overall health.

Ever since I was little I have always wanted to be in ballet and have been in love with all types of dance and music. Over the years I have tried various workout routines ranging from running, walking, weight training and more. It was recently that I stumbled upon the Bar method workout.

The Bar Method combines yoga, pilates and ballet into a floor and barre-based regime of fat burning interval training, muscle shaping isometrics and dance conditioning. At first I wasn’t sure if it would work or if I would get a good workout. Needless to say this little workout kick my butt in a very good way. Within the first 10 minutes I was feeling the burn and by the end of the hour my legs were JELLO. We won’t even talk about how hard stairs were the next day!

I want to say a big thanks to Carolyn at The Bar Method Vancouver for letting me experience this wonderful workout. Not only are the instructors amazing, they encourage you to push your boundaries and are there helping you each step (or lift) of the way. They even loan the dvd workouts to their members when going away on a work trip or vacation, making it very accessible to stay on track. The studio in Vancouver is beautiful and such a treat to go to. The change rooms are great and fully stocked up with everything you need to freshen up after a class. This is perfect whether you go first thing in the morning before work, on your lunch break or on your way home at the end  of the day. I love the way this workout creates a lean, sculpted body. I highly recommend The Bar Method.

  1. There is an exercise to suit everybody, you just have to find the right one. Whilst you are younger you have the enrgy to try lots of differents sports and exercises. As we age, we just need to slow down, but by then we will have found the exercise that we love to do.
