No matter what time of year it is, exfoliation should be a top priority (especially wintertime). Not only does it slough off the dead skin and help with congestion, it helps products absorb better into the skin. I have found that by exfoliating throughout the years, I have helped prevent wrinkles and fine lines from developing. Regular exfoliation also leads to clearer, more moisturized skin. One important key to exfoliating is to make sure to moisturize after with a mask or cream. I have tried a number or products and techniques and would love to share some of my favourites with you.
Over the last year and mostly the last few months, I have been introduced to some amazing treatments and products. I wanted to give a few recommendations for those that crave being pampered, need some options for at home skin treatments and those that just love a natural solution that they can make themselves. Also I’ve paired each with a follow-up mask, cream or serum to complete your treatment for moisture rich skin.
Microdermabrasion ~ I have always wanted to try this treatment, but have had a fear it might be painful. I was introduced to Janiece, the manager of Urban Body Laser in Vancouver recently and after talking about my skin she recommended the treatment. I came in and first had a skin analysis, followed by mini facial which included an amazing cleanser and a polish exfoliant by Osmosis. The treatment didn’t take long and was pain-free. There were no grainy particles left on my skin (like I have heard from other people’s experiences). My treat ment was finished off with the Quench moisturizer and Replenish serum.
I have to say that not only is the location beautiful, it has a spa-like environment with amazing staff. Everyone is professional, knowledgable and really loves what they do. They really take pride at making your whole experience memorable. From the time you step in the door, to the moment you leave. Urban Body Laser is a medical spa specializing in anti-aging and hair removal.
Recently I have found a few new products that you can use at home 1-2 times per week. The first is a company I have posted about before, Dermalogica. I recently received what I call the”Dynamic Duo”~ Dermalogica’s Daily Microfoliant and Intensive Moisture Balance. Not only does the rice-based enzyme powder leave my skin feeling baby soft and radiant, it’s not abrasive at all. The moisturizer gives my skin a protective barrier, making it perfect for the Wintertime. These 2 are an amazing combination and addition to my beauty regime. I love to follow-up with the Over Night Repair serum and Intensive Moisture Balance
The next product line I have been introduced to is Belmondo, a natural organic skin care line. They use olive oil in their products to revive the skin’s natural radiance. All products are hand-made in small batches and uses organic ingredients. The Gentle Face Exfoliant has a great lavender scent that gently exfoliates and leaves the skin silky smooth. It’s perfect for all skin types. After, I apply a few drops of The Dew nourishing facial oil. This elixir is easily absorbed and contains amazing ingredients like Jojoba oil, Rose hip oil and Vitamin E~just to name a few! I finished off my at home treatment with The Cloud face cream. This moisturizer reminds me of whipped marshmallows. It is great for those cold months when your skin is craving nourishment!
Last but not least a few of my favorite exfoliants that you can make yourself~
Oatmeal facial scrub. Good for sensitive skin.
1/2 cup uncooked oats (for finer scrub you can blend into powder)
1 tbsp.honey(if you use ground up oats you may want to adjust honey)
1 tablespoon rose-water
Mix ingredients together to form a paste. Massage into face and neck. Let scrub sit on skin for 10-15 minutes before rinsing. I usually apply my scubs and leave on while soaking in the tub!
Olive oil and sugar scrub. Great for dry skin.
1 tbs. sugar
few drops olive oil
Blend together both ingredients adding a few drops of oil at a time to form a spreadable paste. Gently massage into skin. Rinse with a face cloth and warm water.
I would love to hear back and let me know your favorite way to exfoliate your skin!
