Welcome to the first post for “Feed your skin Friday’s”! Over the years I have learned so many tips and tricks on how to add every day super foods to your diet. One thing that always comes up in many of my conversations is “I have dehydrated/dry skin”. The first thing that I ask is ” Do you drink enough water?” The majority reply with, ” I drink coffee, tea, juice and energy drinks”. What most people don’ t realize is that all the beverages listed above are not good sources of water and end up dehydrating you when substituted.
Water is very crucial for your body in a number of ways. Not only is it good for your health and digestion, it is great for ridding the body of toxins and helping promote weight loss.
A lot of people I have talked to say that they don’t drink water because it isn’t flavored. The best way to add some flavor to your everyday water is with the beautiful fruits and vegetables from your very own kitchen. Here are my favorites and the benefits of each.
Lemons and Limes~ Promote good digestion, are great antioxidants, help clear up acne, cleanse and purify the system
Raspberries~ Loaded with vitamins, antioxidants and fiber. They contain strong antioxidants such as Vitamin C, quercetin and gallic acid
Pink Grapefruit~ Rich in Vitamin C and have lycopene, a known cancer-fighting chemical. Also have unique phytochemicals (a.k.a. bioflavanoids) that help promote skin health and general health.
Cucumber~ the abundance of antioxidants and silica within can rejuvenate the skin and leave it feeling soft and smooth. Great for collagen production and helps with acne problems
Fresh Ginger~ Increases skin’s radiance, decrease inflammation, improves skin tone and reduces blemishes. Drink to relieve heartburn, indigestion, nausea and vomiting
Mint~ A remedy for digestive problems and stomach cramps for centuries. Of course it is a natural breath freshener. It is also a natural diuretic and has been used to relieve IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) and colitis.
