Avocado

Avocados are one of my favorite things I love to eat, I put them on/in everything. From salads to smoothies, this little green pear-shaped fruit is one of my top picks for ” Feed Your Skin Friday’s”. Avocados have so many health benefits, they are rich in antioxidants and have anti-inflammatory properties. They are good for your heart, regulate blood pressure and most of all they are high in Essential Fatty Acids (the good fats).

I thought I would include a few tips and remedies for you to enjoy~ a great snack,  a few at-home beauty treatments and a wonderful smoothie.

Avocado Hummus~ I take the following and puree in a food processor until smooth. It goes well with raw vegetables, lentil or sweet potato chips, or even as a spread on a sandwich.

Ingredients

  • 1 can chick peas, rinsed
  • 1 medium to large avocado (peeled & pitted)
  • 2 tablespoons tahini (sesame seed puree)
  • 1 lemon, juiced and zested
  • 1 lime, juiced and zested
  • 2 cloves mashed garlic (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • jalapeno ~to taste (optional)
  • Cilantro ~to taste  (optional)
  • I medium tomato (optional)
  • 3 tablespoons of coconut milk (optional)
  • Pinch of salt ( teaspoon if desired)
  • A few cracks of black pepper

Hair/Face Mask~ mix together half an avocado, 1 tablespoon of coconut oil, 1 tablespoon of honey, 1 tablespoon of olive oil and apply. Leave on for 30 minutes to an hour and wash off/out. You can also just use avocado on its own and mash it up and apply.

Face Moisturizer~ Take the inside of the avocado peel and with upward strokes, lightly massage your face. The oil from the peel contains a humectant, which is great for adding moisture to the skin. Leave the oil on your skin for about 15 minutes. You can live it on overnight or wash it off and pat dry. Remember to apply a SPF if going out.

Under-eye Treatment~ Peel half an avocado, remove the pit, and slice into quarter-inch pieces. Lie down and place one piece under each eye and rest for 15-30 minutes. This is great for reducing under-eye puffiness. I love putting the avocados in the fridge before hand for a few minutes to chill , feels refreshing after a long day!

Hand & Feet Exfoliating Scrub~ Mix half an avocado, 1 teaspoon of lemon juice, 2 tablespoons of oatmeal and 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a bowl and apply to your hands and feet in a circular motion to slough off dead skin. Leave for 10-15 minutes and wash off. I apply coconut oil after and put on socks. This is a great scrub that will give you baby soft hands.

Smoothie~ Take the following ingredients and blend in a mixer. This smoothie is amazing for glowing, radiant, ultra moisturized skin!

  • 1 ripe avocado, halved and pitted
  • 1 cup almond milk or coconut milk
  • 1/2 cup vanilla or greek yogurt
  • 1 tablespoons honey or Agave
  • 1/2 chopped frozen banana (tastes better)
  • ½ Apple
  • Handful blueberries or berry of your choice (optional)
