I recently saw this quote and it really resonated within, “If you’re tired of starting over, stop giving up”. For years I have (like so many others) been on the fitness roller coaster, trying every health kick, fitness activity and quick fix to get my little butt into shape. I seem to have the same conversation over and over with people, saying you don’t need to lose weight, you’re in great shape. But the truth is everyone has their reasons for losing weight and improving their fitness. It’s not about being super skinny; it’s about living a healthy balanced lifestyle. It always seems that I have some event coming up that I get into a routine for some time and then after it’s come and gone I fall off the wagon. It usually starts with missing a few days are at the gym, eating some bad food and saying I’ll start tomorrow. But tomorrow doesn’t usually happen and then you get into a rut. You have to make the conscious decision to start today. You also have to have patience and not beat yourself up if you do take a few steps back. Fitness can’t be something you cram into your life; you have to make it a part of the everyday.
Ever since my teens, I have been an emotional eater. When things seem to be going bad or a stressful situation arises I turn to food. There is a reason things are called “comfort food”. One thing I have realized over the years is when you first start something or are trying to get over something, having a support system is crucial. For years I have trained and tried to tackle this fitness thing alone, which can be very challenging. With that being said, I am pleased to announce the launch of a new fitness journey called “Balanced and Fit”. I have teamed up and will be sponsored by personal trainer Hanan Arabatlian from Hanan Fitness. From the moment I was introduced to Hanan, I knew there was something special about her. She has such dedication, compassion, determination and discipline that I knew she would be the perfect fit. Hanan also does online training, which makes it convenient for anyone to start a program, do it on your own with a constant support platform. I believe that having a trainer to check in with and support you can be very beneficial when starting out. Each week I will be posting on how the week went with my gym time, meal planning and all the trials and tribulations. I plan on being honest on my progress and holding myself accountable, which means even if I hit some bumps I will post on how I over came those obstacles. Thank you to Steve Nash Fitness Clubs as well, who will also be sponsoring my training at their various gyms.
It’s been a week since I started the plan and I have to say it’s definitely been an adjustment. First off I really had to sit down and plan my week out. I had to spend a day to shop and prep my food for the week (actually I prepped twice this week ~Sunday and Wednesday), schedule my workouts and journal my progress. Starting any new routine can be hard, but like brushing your teeth you need to make it a priority. One of the main challenges I have is eating breakfast, so within an hour of waking I eat oatmeal with a scoop of protein powder.. I’m following a food plan of 5 small meals a day, eating every 2-3 hours. Throughout the day my diet consists of protein (usually chicken), raw veggies and yams. I am allowed one cheat meal each week and this week my food of choice was pasta! One of my biggest challenges is drinking more water. I have stopped my earl gray lattes and really trying to increase my water intake. When I do want to splurge and opt for an additional bevy I choose Coconut Water. It has no added sugar (I drink them in moderation). It has been a little hard emotionally when I do have a hiccup or 2, but Hanan has been great at letting me know not to beat myself up and believe in the process. Well it’s off to start prepping for week 2. I look forward to sharing my fitness journey with all of you……….
