We created a dramatic left side part and pinned up with side sweep. Then we added texture with a 11/4 inch curling iron, setting it with Iron Shape 11 and applying the iron shape into each section, and then spiral-wrapping vertically using big sections. Then we worked our way around the head spraying Shine Flash 02 into our hands and raking through the waves to create a beachy-type texture. We finished the look with Wax Blast 10.

Balanced and Fit………a fitness journey!

Last week Sunday I posted that I was off to Toronto to cover World MasterCard Fashion Week. It was the end of my week 4 since starting my fitness journey, “Balanced & Fit”. I can’t believe a month has flown by!

This past week this quote picture really inspired what I was going through. For as long as I can remember I have always been a busy girl and many times said to myself, I will workout tomorrow. Then tomorrow comes and I say tomorrow again! I realized that this mindset has to stop, if you continuously say this, you will always find excuses. As I have said in earlier posts, you have to make a healthy lifestyle part of your everyday. Now there may be times when you just get so busy that you end up missing a workout. All you have to do is #1 not beat yourself up and get discouraged. Instead, you need to make a promise that come tomorrow you will put those running shoes on and get to the gym and give it all you’ve got. There will always be distractions and challenges in life, but you have to be kind to yourself and know you are human and are allowed to have off days. You just have to stay strong!

Now I get to fill you in on this past week and how I stayed strong on the road to finish off my week 5. Before leaving for Toronto I spoke with my trainer Hanan from Hanan Fitness and expressed I was concern with going away and having a hard time staying on track. She reassured me that I would be ok, I just had to stay focused and schedule in time for my workouts. So that’s what I did, I made sure that before I headed out for a long day at fashion week I would get my workout in. While I was away I was able to get in all 4 days for my weight training schedule. It’s funny that this week I actually could notice my body gaining some muscle tone. It’s encouraging to see the results starting to show from all the work I have put in. I did have one challenge this week with my workouts, I ended up staying at two different hotels (with one having a limited weight area). The first hotel had a great set up for their weights, I was able to get in all my exercises with the various fitness equipment and free weights. The second hotel only had a stand of free weights (luckily I was on day 4 so it was only the one day dealing with this), so I did my best with what I had. I actually found some creative ways to workout my targeted muscle group. You can still get a good workout in with limited equipment.

As for my diet, well that was a bit more challenging with being on site all week at the shows. I made sure that I ate a good breakfast, usually an egg white omelette or oatmeal and berries. This was good during the long hour days as it kept me full throughout the day and my blood sugar level. At fashion week I was blessed to be a part of the Target Media Lounge as they had a great set up for food and beverages. I was able to snack on nuts, fruit, vegetables, turkey and unlimited bottles of Smart water. Now because I have promised to be 100% Honest, there were many temptations a long the way. But with all this said I only gave in a few times to the occasional macaroon or lemon tart. All in all I stayed focused. I found with seeing my body change and the results starting to show, the yummy treats did not seem so desirable. One thing I did do (courtesy of a suggestion from Hanan) was to carry some protein bars in my purse in case I found myself going for a long period without eating (which totally helped). Honestly with weight training, I have been finding it more and more easy to consume a lot of water. I have continued to take the Glutamine and BCAA’s and don’t feel as sore after my workouts.

I really thought it was going to be difficult to be away from home, stay in a hotel and eat out so much. But……..it just takes some planning, preparation and effort to make good decisions. I always feel like a pain going into restaurants and asking for special requests, yet it wasn’t so bad. Every restaurant was more than accommodating, you just have to ask nicely. It really is no different than having food allergies and eating out. At one of the places I even enjoyed chicken fajitas, just with no oil and lettuce wraps instead of the tortillas, YUM!

Well it’s on to week 6 and I can’t wait to hit the gym (I can’t believe I’m saying that).

Thank you to my personal trainer Hanan Arabatlian from Hanan Fitness  for my fitness program &Steve Nash Fitness Clubs for sponsoring my training at their various gyms.

Pop Up at World MasterCard Fashion Week

On Wednesday, October 24, at World MasterCard® Fashion Week in Toronto I was walking throughout the Official World MasterCard Lounge (between runway shows) when all of a sudden a crowd gathered around the middle of the room where a boardroom table displayed. As we all stood there waiting in anticipation for what was going to happen, music started and a few people (which turned out to be actors/dancers) broke out into a rehearsed performance. 5 Gum and Canadian label Greta Constantine in collaboration with IMG Fashion, wowed with a surprise debut of a 5® Gum-inspired flash-fashion presentation, officially unveiling the exclusive 5 Black Collection.

Ten models unexpectedly revealed the collection in the IMG Fashion Environment with a tent takeover featuring 10 exclusive designs created by Stephen Wong and Kirk Pickersgill of Greta Constantine in partnership with 5 Gum to celebrate black in fashion.

It was such an amazing opportunity to be a witness of this pop up show. The metallic collection truly was stunning, elegant and edgy. The way it was presented grabbed my attention from start to finish, I am definitely an admirer of the brand.

“Greta Constantine is an accessible luxury line of ready-to-wear womenswear based in Toronto, Canada. Designers Kirk Pickersgill and Stephen Wong, considered the “jersey boys of Toronto,” have rapidly accumulated a clientele comprised of international socialites and celebrities alike. The label itself is derived from the combination of the name of Stephen’s mother, Greta, with that of Kirk’s grandfather, Constantine. The pair works together in their Toronto area studio — conceptualizing, exploring, and challenging the fashions of today for the women of tomorrow.”

The 5 Black Collection

The 5 Black Collection is exclusive to a select number of consumer and media activities across Canada and is not available for purchase. Celebrating the colour black, and the undeniable role it has played in all things stylish, the partnership between Greta Constantine and 5 Gum marked their first collaboration with World MasterCard Fashion Week.

Backstage Beauty: Celebrity Makeup Artist, James Vincent for Kevyn Aucoin & Davines for Hair at Suzanne Rae S/S 2013

Inspired by Suzanne Rae’s Spring 2013 collection and her minimal Japanese influence, Celebrity Makeup Artist, James Vincent brings the look to life by complementing the neutral palette and pops of blue in the collection using classic makeup artist cult favorites from Kevyn Aucoin.

“This look is not soft, not bridal and not close up editorial.  It is taking the energy of Suzanne Rae and Kevyn Aucoin so we have a beautiful raw energy.  That is what this look is all about,” say Celebrity Makeup Artist, James Vincent. “There is no mascara and no eye pencil inside the eye

 THE MAKEUP LOOK

Brow: Apply Kevyn Aucoin Eye Shadow Single in #101 (light bone) and #104 (soft clay) for a lightened brow and extreme look that brings the focus to the eye.

Cheek: The cheek is very raw and organic. Use the Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting Powder in Medium to bring structure to the face.  Apply Pure Powder Glow in Fira and Delphine  (orange and peach tones) from the highest point of the cheekbone to the base of the eye for an “out in the elements”/ “windburn” appearance.  Buff and perfect skin with Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer on top of blush so it appears as though the blush is flushing through the skin, rather than sitting on top, adding additional structure.

Lip:  Apply Kevyn Aucoin NEW Matte Lipstick shades for 2013in cool taupe and camel colors.  Use the Kevyn Aucoin Flesh Tone Lip Pencil to ensure lips are natural and sculpted. “These camel shades are essentials for spring” says Vincent!

THE HAIR

Joy Polintanfor Davines created a “clean look with a little edge” at the Suzanne Rae show.
Step by Step to Achieve The Look:
  • First, Politan evenly applied a generous amount of Davines For Wizards No. 3 Universal Mattering Mousse through the hair and brushed through to uniformly distribute product
  • She then dried the hair, brushing back and away from the face to make sure the crown was flat and smooth
  • Pulling the hair taught, Politan created a low clean ponytail and wrapped it with a black elastic
  •   Using Davines For Wizards No. 7 Crystal Fixative Lacquer, Polintan sprayed the hair and flat ironed the ponytail so it laid flat with no flyaways or frizz
  • Lastly, synthetic black bangs were clipped in to create a sharp geometric mini-bob

Backstage Beauty: Geoffrey Rodriguez for Kevyn Aucoin uses Bold Colors in Unexpected Places

Lead Makeup Artist,  Geoffrey Rodriguez for Kevyn Aucoin Beauty created the look for designer Gregory Parkinson’s S/S 2013 Collection at New York Fashion WeekInspired by Gregory Parkinson’s exuberant love of fabric and color, Makeup Artist, Geoffrey Rodriguez says “his S/S 2013 make-up look is all about the mixture of textures and Boldly Colored Cheeks!  The past few seasons have been focused on deep bright colors on the lips or eyes, so this season, I wanted to bring bold emphasis and color to a new and unexpected place- The Cheeks!  As for the lips, we are referring to them as ‘The Absence of Color’.

Just like make-up, Gregory Parkinson’s designs have intricately detailed color combinations and textures, so the creative synergy between the clothes and make-up are very organic. “Each dress could be its own make-up palette,” says Rodriguez.

Please see below for how to get the look!

Screen Shot 2012-09-10 at 9.26.25 PM[1]     Screen Shot 2012-09-10 at 8.39.33 PM

THE LOOK:
  • Cheeks: Apply Kevyn Aucoin Celestial Veil Powder in Candelight prior to blush to soften shades and highlight the temples of the cheeks. Then layer Kevyn Aucoin Pure Powder Glow blush in Shadore from the apple of the cheeks to the temples, followed by Pure Powder Glow in Myracle on temples to contour and sculpt cheeks at the base of the hairline. When the Shadore blush blends with Candlelight, the color actually becomes a softer shade.  This use of mixing and layering creates three different shades of pink on the cheek and adds multiple forms of contouring, highlighting and sculpting.
  • Eyes:  As a base, cover the lid with the NEW! Kevyn Aucoin Eye Shadow Single in #103 (a peach matte). For shine, apply a generous amount of Kevyn Aucoin Loose Shimmer Shadow in Citrine (a gold jeweled tone) at theinner corners and underneath eyes so it appears like the shimmer is ‘dripping down’ the eye.  Depending the model’s dress, the eyes are contoured with one of the gem-inspired Loose Shimmer Shadow shades, primarily, Jade (a vibrant green), Lapis (a bluish plum) or Amethyst (a bright purple), to create light and dimension against the matte lid.  To create lift, the bottom and top lashes are coated with Kevyn Aucoin Curling Mascara.  Two coats are applied using a zigzag motion from the base of the lash-line to the tips for fullness and definition.  A third layer of mascara is used tocoat tips of lashes.
  • Brows: Utilizing Kevyn Aucoin Eyebrow Gel, set to launch in 2013, brows are brushed upward with a little bit of gel, creating a wind-blown look that is free and easy, complementing the hair created for the show.  The Loose Shimmer Shadow in Citrine lines brows for additional highlights and dimension.
  • Lips: Because lip color has been so prominent the last few seasons, we are calling it “The Absence of Color”.  Using Kevyn Aucoin Elegant Lip Gloss in Cloudaine (baby pink) to hydrate and a smidge of Kevyn Aucoin Lip Gloss in Dahliana (nude cream) on top for a baby soft, pouty look.  Again, more layering of sheer textures on top of each other is beautiful for a natural look with a nod towards something modern.
