Sit back and indulge!

BB411~ When did you know you wanted to be a designer?

LM~  I decided to become a designer when I moved to Canada in 1999.

BB411~ If you weren’t a designer and you could be anything in the world what would it be?

LM~ Maybe a musician or a painter.

BB411~ Which designers did you admire growing up?MATIS BY LUCIAN MATIS

LM~ From a very early age I admired Jil Sander  and Jean Paul Gaultier.

BB411~ Have you always been in love with fashion and beauty?

LM~ Subconsciously yes! I was just not aware of it.  As a child I was never happy with my haircuts and the shoes  that were purchased for me. I remember always crying over not having my own tastes recognized. Communist Romania didn’t have a great selection of merchandise so it must have been hard on my parents as well seeing their child unhappy.

BB411~ Who has been your favourite celebrity to dress?

LM~ I am not often in contact with the celebrities I dress as I only ship the garments to their stylist/hotel room. One great memory I have was when I got to spend a day with Andrea Martin and truly enjoyed it. She is just as fun in person as she is on TV.

BB411~ What was your favourite moment from showing Spring/Summer 2013 at World MasterCard Fashion Week?

LM~ The final bow! I love the finales in my show because the audience have viewed the summation of my creativity for the season and their response tells me if they liked it or not.

MATIS BY LUCIAN MATIS

BB411~ What was the inspiration behind the beauty looks during the show (make up & hair)?

LM~ I wanted beautiful simplicity. I didn’t want a hair and beauty show overshadowing the garments but rather complementing them.

BB411~ What is your favourite season to design a collection for?

LM~ I love Fall/Winter and holiday.

BB411~ What do you look for when creating each collection?

LM~ Joie de vivre!

BB411~ Favourite colour?

LM~ I can never decide on a colour however I love jewel tones on women.

BB411~ Describe your style?MATIS BY LUCIAN MATIS

LM~ Mostly casual, easy comfortable with a twist.

BB411~ What does beauty mean to you?

LM~ Effortlessness!

BB411~ What inspires you personally and professionally?

LM~ This is a very broad question that can get me talking for a day…or two.

BB411~ Are you involved in any charities that are close to your heart?

LM~ Yes I participate in a lot of charities involved with cancer research. There are too many people diagnosed and dying of this terrible illness.

BB411~ What does it mean to you to give back?

LM~ It gives meaning to some of the work I do.

Lead-14BB411~ If you could tell your younger self something you have learned and know now what would it be?

LM~ Hmmm…Maybe to enjoy the process more and stress less.

BB411~ What is your skin care regime?

LM~ I am pretty simple when it comes to my beauty regime. I wash my face in the morning and at night. I also use Argan oil once or twice  a week.

BB411~ 3 beauty products you carry with you always?

LM~ My fragrance, lip balm and a hand cream.

BB411~ #1 beauty product you could not live without?

LM~ Argan oil. It’s the only beauty product I use really.

BB411~ Do any certain scents remind you of your childhood?

LM~ I think that fragrance is one of the best memory triggers therefore certain smells bring me back to my childhood.

BB411~ Favorite fragrance?

LM~ My favourite scent at the moment is Lalique – Hommage a L’Homme.

BB411~ Fun fact that your fans may not know about you?Lucian_Matis_by_Peter_Ngyuen

LM~ ……I can be very serious and sometimes very wild when the occasion arises.

BB411~ Favorite quote?

LM~ “You must be the change you want to see in the world” -Mahatma Gandhi

BB411~ What advice would you give entrepreneurs starting out that are following their dreams?

LM~ Never give up!

Wearable Art with Paraezo Couture @WMCFW

floressa_aParaezo Couture, designer wedding gowns, was established in Toronto, Ontario in 2009 by lead designer Bruce Dang, with the first bridal collection launching in 2010, Paraezo Bridal designers combine European style and high fashion runway couture to create pure and original wedding gowns for the modern bride. The brand uses only the highest quality materials and never shies away from elaborate detailing so that every gown evokes feelings of elegance and beauty. In 2012 Paraezo Bridal launched the Paraezo Couture and Wish by Paraezo collections. Paraezo Couture amps up the haute couture design elements creating wearable pieces of art.

Dang’s interest in bridal fashion was sparked while working as creative director for a local wedding boutique. From there, Dang has created seven bridal collections under Paraezo Couture. For the Spring/Summer 2013 collection (entitled “Essence”) at World MasterCard Fashion Week, Dang took inspiration from natural elements, the simple beauty of flowers and foliage, to design wedding gowns with sensational curves, thoughtful embellishments and sharp contours, transforming the pieces into wearable art. He continues to pursue his dream of becoming a world-renowned bridal designer, and to grow Paraezo Couture to become among the most desirable brands in bridal fashion.

_I1C4771

In designing this collection, I found myself inspired by the novel The Secret Garden,” said Dang. “The themes of growth and rejuvenation illustrated in this classic tale captured my attention. Since weddings celebrate joy and new beginnings, I wanted my designs to reflect the optimism inherent in a budding flower. My hope is that brides who chose Paraezo Couture will feel like they have stepped out of a modern-day fairytale, thanks to a combination of European and haute couture influences and indulgently feminine details. The Paraezo woman is one who appreciates sharp cuts and style, but still believes in romance and happily ever after.”~ Bruce Dang

Paraezo was inspired by the Spanish word paraiso, which means paradise, mountains and the garden of eve. The brand defines Paraezo as a place of complete bliss, peace and harmony.

As I sat awaiting the show at WMCFW, I was mesmerized and intrigued by the studio runway decor (especially the wall which was draped with orchids). The gowns were beautiful and dreamy, I honestly had so many favourites. I had the opportunity to meet Bruce backstage and express my love for his designs. With such pure beauty gliding the runway, I jumped at the chance to feature Paraezo Couture on Beauty Buzz 411. If you’re a bride-to-be, this is a designer you must check out. See how the “Secret Garden” inspired this collection and how his pieces are true works of wearable art.

BB411~ When did you know you wanted to be a designer?

BD~ It was my sisters 16th birthday and with my mom I had designed a gown for my sister. The moment she had tried on the gown and seeing how happy my sister was, made me realize that this is the feeling I want all of my brides to feel. Then I knew that this was something that made me happy.

BD~ For the makeup I thought bridal needs to be soft, light and whimsical hence my inspiration for my s/s 2013 collection is “the secret garden”. For the hair I wanted to throw in real flowers to show the pureness of each bride, a different trend rather than a tiara and veil._MG_8232

BB411~ What is your favourite season to design a collection for?

BD~ I would say Spring and Summer collection, because I love using natural elements.

BB411~ What do you look for when creating each collection?

BD ~ I try to stay with the trend and maybe set a few trends whenever possible, but the main idea behind my collection is how I would see my perfect bride go down the aisle.

BD~ Never be afraid and never give up.a21r1386

BB411~ 3 words that best describe you?

BB411~ What is your skin care regime?

BD~ Well my skin is very oily so I was my face 2-3 times a day with a skin cleanser. I keep an acne cream on hand just in case I break out.

Making Her Mark on the World~ DeMOYO @WMCFW

PaiChideya-BiopicFashion Designer Paidemoyo Chideya has spent the last ten years discovering what it means to become not only the epitome of the classic, but the innovative of fashion as well. With her product line, it is clear that this designer is here to make her mark on the fashion world.

Born in Zimbabwe, raised in Sweden, London and with nuances in Paris, Paidemoyo learned to refine her design eye through the diversity of all the multiplexes of cultures that surrounded her upbringing. Upon her New York City arrival, and determined to learn and succeed in the fashion realm, she apprenticed for Carolina Herrera, Calvin Klein and the likes of Ralph Lauren, where she learned to refine her eye for vintage, style, eloquence and demure.

Now mature, and ready to entrance the world with her own style, she has created two lines that encapsulate her vision of the fashion world and her efforts to give back to a world that is in desperate need of healing. This designer not only has a vision, but genuinely works on infusing help into the infrastructures of suffering economies, by not only being eco- conscious, but by creating jobs where jobs are needed right in the heart of the problem, sourcing locally in Africa.

I had the absolute pleasure of meeting Paidemoyo Chideya of DeMOYO at the spring/summer 2013 show at World MasterCard Fashion Week. I was instantly drawn to her magnetic personality and beautiful outlook on life. I had the privilege of witnessing her amazing creations come to life on the runway. BB411~ When did you know you wanted to be a designer?GP4_8348

PC~ Spring! There is so much more that you can do with the body when you can show it off.

BB411~ What do you look for when creating each collection?

PC~ Inspiration that can keep me going for months is what I desire. So I tend to look for ideas that have substance and meaning that I can really meditate upon.  For me, this usually shows up in a spiritual context.GP4_8387

BB411~ Favourite colour?

PC~ Purple

BB411~ What are the 4 staple pieces every woman should have in their wardrobe?

PC~ Excellent shoes, a perfect purse, a great pair of well-fitting jeans and a white tee.

DeMOYO_OFW_SS12PC~ Personally, my parents. I literally stand on the shoulders of giants. They have paved the way for me to become all that I can be and more. I am grateful. Challen Cates

Stunningly gorgeous television actress and Anti-Bullying activist Challen Cates is the mother everyone adores on Nickelodeon’s hit show BIG TIME RUSH. Starring opposite of the musical hockey- playing boy band, Challen is “Momma Knight” to band member “Kendall”. The show chronicles the hap hazard lives of the up and coming stars as they find themselves traveling from Minnesota to Hollywood as the newest teen sensations. Growing up, Challen’s family had a passion for the arts which led to her doing print work and commercials at a very young age. She always had a fascination with acting and began taking classes as a teenager. Soon after college, Challen moved to Atlanta to further pursue her passion and it was there where she acquired her first major role on the critically acclaimed series IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT starring acclaimed actor Carroll O’Connor. She’s since held roles on NBC’PASSIONS, DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, CRIMINAL MINDS, CSI: NY, MONK and Lifetime’s MISSING starring Caterina Scorsone. In addition, Challen starred and executive produced two independent films: A FARE TO REMEMBER and THE A-LIST.

The Roanoke, Virginia native and University of Georgia graduate currently resides in Los Angeles with her husband, famed acting coach Aaron McPherson (clients include Seth MacFarlane, Dolph Lundgren), their two children (son Colton 7 & daughter Jasper 4), two dogs (Greta & Judy) and bearded dragon.

Challen’s agricultural roots in Roanoke have her well versed in the arts of horseback riding and wine making. In her spare time Challen loves to read and has a passion for photography. When she isn’t acting she enjoys traveling; frequently to her families winery, TANTARA, in Santa Barbara County. Challen continuously exemplifies today’s Hollywood Mom both on and off the screen. BIG TIME RUSH

It was such a pleasure to talk with Challen, she radiates this energy and light that makes you feel good around her. She is down to earth, genuine, gracious and incredibly humble. I knew Challen  would be a perfect fit to interview and feature on Beauty Buzz 411. She embraces health, beauty and lives and breathes a balanced lifestyle. So sit back, get comfy and find out all the 411 on how this busy Mom of 2 keeps beautiful and stays grounded.

BB411~ When did you know you wanted to become an actor?

CC~ I knew at a young age that’s what I wanted to do but was too shy to tell people. I did a play when I was little and realized that it was a whole new world, that I could get lost in someone else’s words.

BB411~ If you weren’t in front of the camera and acting and you could be anything in the world what would it be?

CC~ I would be involved in fashion or style, maybe designing jewelry or dresses. I love, love, love fashion. I spend too much time in my closet.

14897_509101645799765_1350895667_nBB411~ How did your parents influence the person you are today?

CC~ My parents were and still are hippies, they instilled honesty and they showed me to always find the positive in people. Since they are both artists they showed me that being an artist is a profession to be proud of.

BB411~ Which Actor/Actress inspired you growing up?

CC~  I loved and still love Vivien Leigh, I have seen “Gone with the Wind” so many times. When I was a kid I watched it over and over. I was so impressed with her, she’s beautiful, so talented and I found it fascinating that she was English and playing this iconic American role.

BB411~ Who’s one person (role model) you haven’t met that you would like to sit down and have lunch with and why (past or present)?

CC~ I have a Marilyn Monroe obsession. I would love to sit down and know the real person, what she was really about. I know that she created this character, this facade she put on, it was her image.

BB411~ Have you always been in love with fashion and beauty?

CC~ Since my parents were hippies growing up and my Mom didn’t wear any makeup, I would take my Aunt’s Vogue Magazines and devour them. I had those forever, I would cut pictures out. I have always been into makeup and what it can do.

BB411~ Favorite Designer?

CC~ For Red Carpet Gowns Carolina Herrera and for everyday life  a few favourites are J Brand Jeans and Alice + Olivia.

BB411~ Favorite color?

CC~ It changes all the time, but right now its purple.

BB411~ What does beauty mean to you and what do you want to teach your kids?

CC~ Being a Mom has been the best thing that has ever happened to me, it took the focus off of myself and gave my life purpose. I don’t think I understood what true love was until I had children. Beauty ties into that, when you love something and you’re passionate about someone or something (your husband, children, pets, job, etc), it comes through and it shows. I think it’s so true when they say beauty comes from within. It’s like when you meet someone and you get to know them, they either become more beautiful if they’re a good person and good-hearted or their selfish qualities can make them not as beautiful as I first thought they were.

BB411~ What inspires you and keeps you balanced (professionally and personally)?Bobby Quillard - Family Shot

CC~ Personally my family and professionally my network of actors and industry people. I also still study and the incredible Larry Moss is inspiring.

Challen CatesBB411~ Greatest accomplishment to date?

CC~ Having my two children. Being a mother has made me a better actress!

BB411~ #1 Thing to check off on your bucket list?

CC~ I need to learn Spanish, my friend even gave me lessons for Christmas. I will do our next interview in spanish.

BB411~ If you could tell your younger self something you have learned and now know what would it be?

CC~ Don’t worry so much about what other people think of you.

BB411~ Are you involved in any charities, are any close to your heart?

CC~ Anything that is involved with kids. Darkness to Light is something that is close to my heart, I have a personal understanding of the damage that childhood sexual abuse can cause. I also actively support the ‘Say It 2 My Face’ Anti-Bullying campaign and “Young Storytellers Foundation”, which provides underprivileged children the opportunity to write stories and see them brought to life through performance. My family and I take part in charities like “Knights Family Toy Drive” where we collect gift donations for children in need.

BB411~ Have you ever dealt with Bullying growing up, if so how did you overcome it?

CC~ Yes I have experienced Bullying. I don’t think it’s something that you easily get over and because of that I want to make sure it doesn’t happen to my kids. That’s why the whole cyber bullying is so scary. If I had to give advice it would be bullying is not true, it’s the unhappiness of the other person. If you can look at it that way, you can feel sorry for them and not take it personally.b89e84bf928ba95198e3d7845ab1d2df.wix_mp_51239509_medium

BB411~ What is your skin care regime?

CC~ I’m really diligent about keeping my skin clean, I can not fall asleep with makeup on. Right now I’m using Rodan + Fields cleanser, toner, moisturize (day and night) and sunscreen during the day. I change my products up all the time. I use Epicuren Colostrum Cream and I’m always looking for the miracle eye cream. I also go and get facials from a place in LA called SkinSense, I have been going there forever.

BB411~ 3 beauty products you carry with you always?

CC~ I use nipple cream on my lips (it works so well for chapped lips, my kids and husband use it as well), mascara and Cle’ de Peau Beaute’ Concealer for dark circles.

BB411~ I read that you used this, so I picked some up to try for my self and it works! I came across a great little company named Bug & Pickle that carries a nipple cream.

CC~ It’s a tie between my nipple cream and mascara.

CC~ I am allergic to perfume so I don’t wear it.

BB411~ Do any certain scents remind you of your childhood?

CC~ Cinnamon reminds me of my grandmother’s kitchen, it’s so good.

BB411~ You have great hair, what do you use as your go to products?

CC~ I love trying products but right now I’m into a line called Bamboo from Alterna Haircare. I use their shampoo and conditioner and this 48 hr volume spray. Its great, you spray it in when your hair is wet, it gives you volume and texture without leaving it sticky. I have a lot of hair, but its fine.

image005BB411~ How do you stay fit?

CC~  I’m a Pilates girl, I have been doing Pilates for 10 years and I love it. It was the only thing I have done where I saw results really fast, I do it 3 times a week. The more you do it, the more advanced it gets.

BB411~ Do you have a best kept beauty secret that has been passed down to you (say from your Mother or Grandmother)?

CC~ My Mom never wears makeup, she’s 72 and has never thought of having any plastic surgery and looks beautiful. Growing up she was into organic farming, drinking lots of water (way before it was in fashion) and she’s really always had a healthy lifestyle. That’s the beauty secret she’s passed down to me.

BB411~ Fun fact that your fans may not know about you (tattoos)?
