Fur Crying Out Loud

Fur Crying Out Loud-1

My heart is so full with love as I get to share a recent collaboration I did with Big Love Ball and 13 amazing, strong-minded women and 1 rocking dude. Along with these beauties, we bundled up in-between shots while we had our pictures taken to launch this new project founded by uber talented, artist Wendy Williams Watt. When Wendy called and asked me to be a part of this great cause, I screamed with excitement. I have so much admiration for everything Wendy, her team and Big Love Ball are creating.

Fur Crying Out Loud’ is an expression of exasperation towards the ongoing senseless mistreatment and neglect of animals. Big Love Ball has created a T-shirt to deliver a straightforward message – be as good to our non-human friends as they have been to us.

Our animals are our family. Asking nothing in return, they shove their wet noses into the palms of our hands when we don’t even know we want them to. They intuit how we are managing emotionally and watch over our loved ones as life sprints along. They put up with our bad driving, silly holiday traditions, histrionic pet voices and foolish attire (sometimes involving chin straps).

Fur Crying Out Loud-4

On a recent cold November afternoon, Big Love Ball invited 15 ambitious animal lovers to sit for a photo in an abandoned brick depot to launch Fur Crying Out Loud. Wearing T-shirts and holding furbabies in lieu of handbags, these local leaders took the time to stand shoulder to shoulder with one united voice. This group consists of confident influencers who all support rescue, adoption and ethical treatment of animals. They chatter about what matters. If one small phrase paws its way into our psyche, this is a start.

Make your fashion statement a passion statement and show your support for animal rescue and adoption. Buy your own Fur Crying Out Loud T-shirt with a portion of all proceeds going to support the rescue and adoption organization, Paws for Hope.

I can’t thank everyone involved enough for making this day one to remember, nothing but love.

A great big THANK YOU to Wendy Williams Watt, William Byma, Photographers Bob Garlick & Eyoalha Baker, Lorena Ponis, Stephanie Langston, Erin Ireland, Charlie Kerr, Mariel Armstrong, Lauren Armstrong, Sunny Lenarduzzi, Megan Williams, Cora Chok, Michelle Hutchinson, Kate Horsman, Natalie Langston, Caolaidhe Lundy and all the fur babies in attendance.

And finally, thank you to Wendy’s daughter Rachael (which the t-shirt is dedicated to) for, at eleven, told her Mom of this idea to raise money during recess at her school for the S.P.C.A. It was because of Rachael’s vision that all of us had the honour and blessing to be a part of this joyful day. This beautiful girl knew the only way to make a change, was to be the change. Rachael is twenty now and volunteers for the SPCA and Vokra. I admire all those that give their time, energy and heart to great causes that make the world a better place.

Oh and did I mention, these T’s are super comfortable. I seem to be living in mine these days.

The Gloss Boss: Kelly Trerise

DSC_7407Kelly Trerise aka “The Gloss Boss” has spent well over a decade as a professional makeup artist in the TV and film, fashion and magazine industries. Three years ago her passion for boudoir was born when she started working for Jennifer Williams as her official “Beauty Queen” and Studio Manager. World renowned for her creative and artistic ventures, Kelly’s true love for business has emerged and her entrepreneurial spirit allowed to thrive with Gloss Boudoir. Kelly believes that all women should try a Boudoir shoot at least once in their lives to open their world to the confidence, sexiness and femininity within them! She’s thrilled that she gets to introduce women to the art of Boudoir every single day!

I had the exciting opportunity to shoot with Kelly and her business partner Jennifer. From the minute I walked into the studio, till the time I left, these girls made me feel like a rockstar. If there were any nerves, they quickly checked out at the door. The level of professionalism these two have not only makes them successful as businesswomen, but creates a beautiful environment for their clients to feel completely at ease. Boudoir doesn’t have to be about lingerie and lace, you can wear what makes you feel sexy (Even your favourite sweater or dress).

I have had my makeup done by many artists and think there is some real talent out there. The one thing that made getting my makeup done by Kelly stand out (aside from her incredible talent) was her infectious energy. This woman radiates beauty inside and out. It’s hard not to feel good around her. She has this way of bringing fun into her work, we had music blasting and the laughter flowed. She’s the kind of person that makes you feel like you’ve known her for years. Kelly glammed me up and got me in the groove, and Jennifer worked her magic behind the lens.

I’m happy to share this interview with you and give you an inside look into what makes Kelly the Boss, when it comes to Gloss!

BB411~ How did you come to work as a Make Up Artist, was it something you knew from an early age?

KT~ I’ve been creative ever since I was a child, it wasn’t until a job shadow day in high school where I got to shadow a makeup artist on set of a TV show that I realized Makeup artistry was an amazing career that I wanted to pursue!

BB411~ What do you love most about being a Makeup Artist?

jennifer-williams-boudoir-photography

KT~ Everything! I LOVE my job, always have and I suspect I always will!

BB411~ What made you decide to focus on Boudoir and what makes the company different?

KT~ I decided to focus on Boudoir after having my first boudoir shoot with Jennifer. We’d been working together for a few months but I was doing other projects as well, once I had my own shoot with her I felt empowered, beautiful, sexy and totally fell in love with our art form!

BB411~ How did you and Jennifer come to team up?

KT~ Jennifer moved to Vancouver from Edmonton and I had just moved back to Vancouver from traveling around the world. She was looking for an artist and my name came up, she called, I did my work for her and we’ve been together ever since!

BB411~ What do you love most about Jennifer?

KT~ Jennifer and I see eye to eye on pretty much everything. She calls it like it is and doesn’t beat around the bush. She’s clearly one of the best photographers of her time but the best part is that she clearly LOVES her job and she loves the art that she creates. I appreciate how well she runs her business and how she respects me, our clients, and the art we create together.

BB411~ Where does your drive and focus come from?

KT~ I want to be the best in my field, hands down. I’m continually growing and learning and I’ve had so many wonderful opportunities in the past that have kept me focused, interested and engaged. In my 15 years of being a professional artist I’ve gone through the gamut of Makeup artistry. Special FX, Fashion, TV, Film and beauty. All of those things excite me and they all add value to my work.

BB411~ What are your favourite brands to work with (what can we find in your kit)?

KT~ I’m a “French” girl at heart! Lancome, Chanel and I also use a bit of NARS and MAC too!

KT~ Boudoir style makeup and hair is my specialty. People in Vancouver know me best for this type of style. Victoria’s Secret waves, a soft smokey eye and glossed up lips!

BB411~ If you weren’t in the career you are today and you could be anything in the world what would it be?

KT~ A Chef! Love to cook, love to eat!

BB411~ How did your parents influence the person you are today?

KT~ I picked an alternative career that can be hard to “make it” in, especially in Vancouver, the fact that they stood behind my decision to do what I love means the world to me. My Mother, especially has been my biggest cheerleader of all time. She’s amazing.

BB411~ How do you stay motivated with life’s daily stresses that come up?

10363483_572585322838721_3167152167426402062_n

KT~ Kevyn Aucoin has always been someone who I admired. He was a genius when it came to a face and some brushes!

KT~ Love inspires me! Finding the person that I genuinely want to spend the rest of my life with is the most exhilarating thing that I’ve ever done. Being in love makes everything seem better and more exciting! In terms of my professional life, I’m one of those people who gets really, really excited to see finished images that I’ve worked on. I love improving my work every day!

BB411~ Have you always been in love with fashion and beauty?

KT~ Always! As a teenager I was a model and got the opportunity to travel to model on the runways of some amazing fashion houses in Europe. Once I realized that I wouldn’t be able to model forever I decided that staying in the industry was really important to me. The industry gives me a total rush and allows me to be a free spirit artist!

KT~ Helping others always feels good. I believe that whatever way you choose to give back will be important to yourself and touch someones life.

BB411~ If you could tell your younger self something you have learned and now know what would it be?
