The inspiration behind the summer love collection are those meaningful relationships ,we as women, all have. Whether its best friends, mothers, daughters, sisters, cousins, we wanted to create a collection that celebrates those personal connections and provides you with daily reminders.

Jillian Harris and Melanie Auld have designed some really fun and classic pieces with a little modern twist. Jillian brings that girly, pretty, loveable vibe and for Melanie it was about taking that and infusing a bit of a modern edge.

All their pieces are brass based with 14kt gold plating. Moonstone, turquoise and pink opal stones mix beautifully with pave and heart detailing.
Meant to be layered and lived in.

In an effort to give back, they are donating $3.50 for every piece of jewelry sold to A Better Life Foundation. Which is the cost of a meal. Buy a piece of jewelry and feel good about helping to feed someone who needs it.

Miranda Lambert Stuns the ACMA’s

image001-3          image002.png

Not only did country superstar Miranda Lambert stun during her ACM performance, the Female Vocalist of the Year (naturally) stunned on the red carpet as well! Celebrity Hairstylist for PRO Beauty Tools Johnny Lavoy explains how he created Miranda’s sexy, wavy textured hair:

“I wanted to create a sexy, wavy texture for Miranda’s look. I used a beach spray for a little texture from the start, then scrunched her hair while drying it with the PRO Beauty Tools Professional 1875 W IONIC AC Motor. Then I curled her hair with the PRO Beauty Tools Professional Gold Curling Iron 1 ¼”, alternating from section to section. I love this curling iron because of its 24 hour curl lock guarantee – which was perfect for a big night like this! I wanted to create a natural, sexy feel so I left out her ends to really get that textured look. To finish, I used hairspray to hold it.

Cate’s Golden Hour

Jeanine Lobell Creates a Dewy Smokey Eye For Cate Blanchett

Cate Blanchett dazzled in a pink gown on the Golden Globes Red Carpet. To compliment the dress, Makeup Artist Jeanine Lobell wanted Blanchett’s look to be pretty but not too soft so she gave her a dewy smokey eye.

To achieve the look, Lobell used a combination of three Giorgio Armani Eye Tints instead of powder shadow to create a sheerer version of a traditional smokey eye. She started with Giorgio Armani Eye Tint in #12 Gold Ashes across the lid. She then used Giorgio Armani Eye Tint in #1 Obsidian instead of a pencil or liquid liner, using it along the lash line placing it from the top and then wrapping it around to the bottom creating a small C around the outer hallow of the eye crease to give a smokey effect. On top of the Giorgio Armani Eye Tint in #1 Obsidian in the crease, she layered Giorgio Armani Eye Tint in #7 Shadow feathering it lightly.

Lobell wanted to give Blanchett a “glow-from-within” on her cheeks so she used Giorgio Armani Cheek Fabric in #507 and then brushed Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Compact over it.

Jeanine didn’t want a heavy look on the lips so she just tapped on Giorgio Armani Rouge Ecstasy in #508 Daybreak to keep the sheer textures consistent.

Backstage at Prabal Gurung during New York Fashion Week Spring Summer 2015 Collections

Backstage at Prabal Gurung during New York Fashion Week Spring Summer 2015 Collections

The spring season is truly about “optimistic & spiritual romance of two opposite worlds: East and West.” The sensuality, femininity, vibrant colours & textures of the East merged with the practicality, pragmatism and movement of the West. It’s a celebration of what resounds with me most: femininity with a bite. The motifs, embroidery and textures are inspired by the artist Laxman Shrestha and shapes and silhouettes a feminine take on American Sportswear.

For the eleventh consecutive season, Prabal Gurung turned to Sally Hansen, the #1 Nail Colour and Nail Care brand in the US, and Madeline Poole, Sally Hansen Global Colour Ambassador, to create exclusive nail looks.

Madeline explains, “For Prabal’s nails we chose a pale yellow “Mum’s the Word” with an organic flow of white shapes. The shapes are painterly brush strokes curves and are inspired by his feminine silhouettes while the colour combination gives the look a sporty edge.”

Mum’s The Word and Let’s Snow are part of Sally Hansen’s award-winning Complete Salon Manicure collection that infuses trend-setting shades with an expert-quality formula to deliver salon-caliber results. Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure delivers seven salon manicure steps in one bottle. Chip resistant strength joins gel-quality shine. Must-have colour meets nourishing benefits. Plus, with a built-in base and top coat, it’s everything you need to achieve a professional manicure at home.

Sally Hansen Global Colour Ambassador Madeline Poole is a nail expert working in New York and LA. Trained as a painter, Madeline worked odd jobs like vintage poster restoration as an art student in Baltimore. Her unique talent in crafting innovative designs, emphasis on skin care and attention to the hand as a whole makes her one of the most sought after names in the beauty industry. As part of the collaboration with Sally Hansen, Madeline will help set the artistic direction for a new generation of modern nail looks and collections with her fashion-forward vision on a worldwide basis.

What I love most about Gail is she puts her heart and soul into everything she does. The clients, people and friends in her life reap the rewards having her in their corner, your greatest cheering squad. She stands behind what she believes in and goes the extra miles for the people she cares about. I find it inspiring to sit and talk with her and learn more on what it takes to have that entrepreneurial spirit. Oh and did I mention, not only is she beautiful inside and out, she knows how to rock the red lips!

Warning: This interview may cause you to stop what you’re doing and spark that entrepreneur in YOU!

BB411~ You have been involved with the fashion industry for over 18 years and wear many different hats. Can you give us a little insight into all that you do and how did everything come to be?

GM~ It does seem like a lot, doesn’t it? It’s not really to me – I love being involved in as many aspects of the industry as possible. I want to see it continue to grow and flourish.

Day-to-day, I run my fashion branding and publicity agency Magnet Creative Management and our showroom Stylist Box, which I run with the ingenious Christian Dare. Then I freelance report and write for various outlets, including on air hosting for TDotTV. I’ve always loved writing and reporting – I am so lucky that I can also apply it to so many areas of my career.

BB411~ Did you always know that you would go into the career you are in today?

GM~ I never thought I’d be the owner of my own company, but I always knew I wanted to be in the beauty, entertainment and fashion industries.

When I was 8 years old, I wanted to be a makeup artist; by age 14, I was selling Avon door-to-door. At 12 I wanted to be a fashion designer. It wasn’t until my high school Fashion Arts teacher gave me a dose of reality and the best advice I was ever given at that stage; “Most people who go to fashion school end up as a patternmaker or seamstress. If you want to become a designer, you will need backing or come from a rich family.” I listened and decided at age 17 that I was either going to be a model agent or a fashion show coordinator. By the age of 20 I had already done both.

Stepping back and taking a look at the past twenty years always amazes me. I wish so much I could have told my shy, conservative teenage self to never place doubt on what you want to do – it is all attainable.

BB411~ Where does your drive and focus come from?

Gail_McInnes_Photo_Ted_BeltonGM~ Definitely from my Scottish upbringing and my parents. The educational system in Scotland is much more structured than the Canadian system – which I learned when I moved here in 1989. Both my parents are entrepreneurs and are self-employed.

Fear is the greatest motivator. I want to test myself and try to overcome anything which I ever thought I could never do or that was intimidating. I used to be deathly shy in social situations; overcoming that fear was just step one on realizing that if you put your mind to it, you really can challenge and accomplish things you thought were out of reach before.

BB411~ If you weren’t in the career you are today and you could be anything in the world what would it be?

GM~ Acting, art, or music.

I always wanted to act. I loved my theatre company in school and I wish I hadn’t been so reserved and shy to pursue it more. I would have loved to have become a professional artist. My mum had wanted me to go to OCAD, but never pressured me in anyway. When I was in high school I worked at music stores; if I had pursued that career path, I could have seen myself getting into music management.

BB411~ Who did you admire growing up or do today?

GM~ My mother. She was the driving force in my family. She married my dad at the age of 18 and had four girls by the time they were 27. She ran the household and was always hustling and working to provide us a better life than how she had grown up. I admire her for her gumption and perseverance.

BB411~ Who has been your favourite designer to work with?

GM~ I’ve been so fortunate to work with so many amazing talented designers. It would not be fair for me to call out any names, but those who I call friends are special to me. They know who they are.

BB411~ What are the trends for Spring/Summer?

GM~ Even though trends can be fun to follow each season, I always say, wear what you like and what suits both your body and personality, don’t feel pressured into following trends.

BB411~ Which celebrity do you feel Rocks ongoing style?

GM~ Dita Von Teese, Cate Blanchett, and Tilda Swinton. They all have their own unique sense of style which is powerful in itself.

Gail_McInnes_Scottish_Fashion-AwardsBB411~ Favourite Colour?

GM~ Red.

BB411~ Describe your style?

GM~ Classic retro. I love a red lip and feminine dresses, but I also love to be a little “rock and roll” sometimes.

BB411~ Bare feet, socks or stilettos?

GM~ Stilettos.

BB411~ What are the 5 key pieces that every woman should have in their wardrobe?

  1. A perfectly fitted and tailored jacket
  2. A pair of classic black brogues and/or stilettos
  3. Well-fitted undergarments; especially bras – base garments are the most important thing
  4. A great classic white shirt
  5. A comfortable and well-fitted pair of blue jeans

BB411~ What does beauty mean to you?

GM~ Compassion. There is nothing more beautiful than someone who cares and understands the struggles of others.

BB411~ What inspires you personally and professionally?

GM~ Any person or organization that is working hard to make a difference to our community without ego.

BB411~ What are the key points to being a good role model?

GM~ Being true to yourself and approaching every challenge with enthusiasm and optimism.

BB411~ Are you involved in any charities that are close to your heart?

GM~ I’ve been involved with Passion for Fashion, a free fashion business program from Youth Employment Services YES and the Toronto Fashion Incubator (TFI) as an instructor and mentor for the past five years. I also actively support the Canadian Foundation for AIDS Research (CANFAR). Every holiday season we encourage our clients to donate a shoebox for the Shoebox Project – it’s a great charity which brightens up the lives of women in shelters.

BB411~ What does it mean to you to give back?

GM~ Giving back is so important, it’s all about supporting the community and helping as many people as possible.

BB411~ If you could tell your younger self something you have learned and know now what would it be?Gail-McInnes-tedbelton-007

  • Take more risks.
  • Don’t stay longer in a job or relationship than you should – get out the moment you know it’s not making you happy.
  • Never be afraid to ask – you’ll never know unless you ask. This can apply to everything from financials, raises, favours, information, etc.
  • Surround yourself with people you admire and never be afraid to say goodbye to negative people and environments.
  • Do karaoke! You’re gonna love it, and you’re actually not that bad a singer as you think.
  • Don’t stress so much about dating. Being single is actually the best time of your life – you’ll accomplish more than you ever dreamed possible.

BB411~ How do you stay motivated with life’s daily stresses that come up?

GM~ Laughter. It truly is the best medicine. I also am lucky to be surrounded by so many hilarious people.

BB411~ What is your skin care regime?

GM~ It changes each day and with the weather. In my twenties, I only ever used Avon’s Effective Eye Make Up Remover to cleanse, I never used soap, then I would use Nivea cold cream. Since I turned 30, I’ve been taking a greater effort to take care of my skin. I exfoliate once every two days with St Ives Exfoliating Apricot Scrub, cleanse and moisturize with Shiseido’s Benefiance collection – the skin softner makes such a difference. For removing eye makeup, I’ve been using Annabelle’s Eye Makeup Remover, I love how easy the pump is to use. And for serums, I am love with the velvety feeling that Estee Lauder Perfectionism [CP+R] leave behind.

BB411~ How do you stay Healthy and Balanced?

Style: "Portrait B&W"GM~ I wish I could admit to going to the gym five times a week, but with my hectic schedule it can be harder during busy times, so I end up there about three times mixing up the elliptical with yoga. I do walk as much as possible when the weather allows; typically walking 30 minutes to an hour or more each day to get to meetings and events. I am trying to be better with drinking more water. I never keep junk food or alcohol in my house, so I do tend to eat better and more balanced at home rather than during the week. And Vitamin D! I have a very low count and take 5 times normal on my doctor’s directions – it really does make a huge difference on your mood, especially during those winter months.

BB411~ 3 beauty products you carry with you always?

GM~ Right now, I always have Stila Stay All Day Lipstick in Amore, Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat and Benefit’s BADgal Lash Mascara. If I don’t have time to do my makeup completely, these three products add extra glam in less than 5 minutes.

BB411~ #1 beauty product you could not live without?

GM~ Conair’s Curl Secret – this is the only way I can go from work to an event in no time. It’s so easy to use and creates beautiful curls that last all night.

BB411~ Favourite fragrance?

GM~ Victor and Rolf’s FlowerBomb.

BB411~ Fun fact that people may not know about you?

GM~ My full name in Gaelic/Scots roughly translates to “Lively Fire of the Unique One”.

BB411~ Favorite quote?

GM~ “Power is being told you’re not loved and not being destroyed by it.” – Madonna

BB411~ Favourite Food?

GM~ Anything Mexican or Indian – I love spicy food.

BB411~ Describe your perfect day when you have some down time?

  • Sleeping in till noon
  • A long, leisurely brunch (grapefruit mimosas are mandatory)
  • Spa treatments
  • Dinner on a beautiful, hidden patio
  • A concert of one of my favourite performers or bandsStylist-Box-Gail-002_Teb_Belton

BB411~ What advice would you give entrepreneurs starting out that are following their dreams?

GM~ Learn from others before diving into the entrepreneurship world. Find mentors to help you with your business plan. Do your research to ensure there is place in the market for your service or product. After that, just go for it and push yourself further than you ever thought possible. Good things will come to those who work their asses off. Don’t expect anything to come to you – you have to find it yourself.

BB411~ #1 thing you want to cross off your bucket list?

GM~ Meet Madonna.

BB411~ What has been your biggest Aha Moment so far in life?

GM~ No one is talking about you as much as you think they do – they’re too busy worrying about who they think is talking about them.

BB411~ Where do you see yourself in 1 year, 5 years and 10 years?

GM~  My career is, and always has been, an evolution. I don’t want to jinx my plans just yet, but the universe will lead me to where I am meant to be.

BB411~ When I say the words #lovethis, what is the first thing that comes to mind?

GM~ Time alone. I’m a loner at heart and my alone time is what gives me time to recharge for the next busy period.

Dancing Away with my Heart…..Louis van Amstel

bl14Three-time World Dance Champion and Emmy-nominated choreographer Louis van Amstel is best known for his nine stunning turns on the smash hit TV show “Dancing with the Stars.” When not tearing up the dance floor on TV, Louis continues to grow his highly popular dance fitness program, “LaBlast“, which is spreading rapidly and currently available in multiple cities worldwide. Louis recently partnered with leaders in the fitness world New Evolution Ventures and fueled by Crunch, to expand the LaBlast program both domestically and internationally.

Louis has an extensive background as a professional choreographer, coach and trainer. He served as a choreographer on FOX’s dance hit show “So You Think You Can Dance,” marking the first time any “DWTS” talent had crossed over to work on both shows at the same time. He has also choreographed for Fox’s “Lie to Me” and he trained the contestants on ABC’s reality show, “Bachelor Pad.” Additionally, Louis served as choreographer, creative director, and performer for the immensely popular “Dancing with the Stars” live stage show in 2006 and 2007, bringing his unique teachings and edgy style to millions of dancing fans around the U.S. Louis’ artistic and inspired choreography brought ballroom to the people and his creative vision helped to make the “Dancing with the Stars” tour one of the most successful live shows. SHOWBIZ Insider 1

Louis established himself as an expert on achieving fitness through dance after helping to transform the bodies of past “Dancing with the Stars” celebrity partners Kelly Osbourne, Niecy Nash, and Margaret Cho. As a longtime passionate advocate of healthy living, Louis created LaBlast to promote fitness and make working out fun- all through the power of dance!

Born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, Louis’ dance life started at the age of ten after his family decided it was important for his social skills to learn ballroom dancing. Louis’ grandparents were competitive ballroom dancers so it didn’t come as a surprise to many that he followed in their footsteps. From the age of 15 Louis was traveling abroad representing his country in major dance competitions in both Ballroom and Latin. He got an international partner, moved to England and therefore stop traditional school at the age of 16.

During the summer of 1989 he started a whole new roller coaster in life with his beloved British dance partner, Julie Fryer. Louis went on to receive three world Latin Dance championship gold medals in 1994, 1995 and 1996. Louis felt the urge to do more, so at 26 he stopped competing and in June of 1997 moved to New York City. “I took the risk and followed my intuition once more. I packed my two suitcases, bought a ticket and moved to the Big Apple leaving my home country. A new chapter of my life had begun, and I had no idea what was in store for me.”

In that summer he had the pleasure of working and coaching many amazingly talented dancers that are now colleagues on DWTS like Tony Dovolani, Karina Smirnoff, Maksim Chmerkovskiy and his brother Val.

I have been a fan of Dancing with the Stars since the very beginning, you could say I was and am a little obsessed with it. Probably because I was never put in dance but always looked up and admired the girls in my school that were. I appreciate the process of the show and think it is incredible to see these stars transform week by week. I think the professionals are all incredible and Louie is one of my top picks. There is just something about him that deeply speaks to you when you watch him dance, teach and choreograph. There have been many celebrities that he has coached where I have had my heart warmed watching his compassion, dedication and love play out in each dance. I would have to say that watching his partnership with Sabrina and mostly Kelly was remarkable, the way he dug deep and nurtured delicate emotions, just beautiful. I still can replay his performance with Kelly, my eyes fill with tears and I become overwhelmed with emotion. Dance has a way of touching your core and evoking such strong emotions.

When I found out that I was going to have the opportunity to sit down and interview Louie for this piece, I was over the moon ecstatic. I wondered if he would be as lovely in person that he appears on television, well…… he completely blew my mind. Upon meeting up with him he had this calmness and ease that made me feel right at home. Louie had a full day with classes, interviews and tv appearances, I was his last stop yet he put all his focus and attention into our meeting (despite having a long day). We sat and talked like two friends catching up after not seeing each other for some time. As I sat and listened to him answer my questions I began to realize this wasn’t just any interview, I was gaining perspective and learning about how beautiful life can be. I didn’t know that my interview with Louie would give me some concrete direction and fed my soul. Louie has a huge heart, wonderful outlook on life and shows that one person can make a difference. It was an honour and I feel truly blessed to be able to share this interview with all of you.

BB411~ When did you know you wanted to be a dancer?

LVA~ Well at 10 it wasn’t my choice, it was my mom’s choice. My Parents thought it would be good for social purposes. At the end of the season you’d have a medal test with judges who marked you on your performance. I made it into the top 3 and won. I had no idea, I was just dancing and  I liked that feeling. So by 12  I knew I was going to be a competitive dancer, then my international career started when I was 15

BB411~You left school at 16?

LVA~ It was actually illegal for my school principal to let me go, I had to officially stay for another year (or half a year). It was well thought out, my parents (especially my dad) said go, let him do it~why not if he’s talented like people say. My mom had a bit of a harder time. In 94 (8 yrs later) we became world champions, we had a celebratory event and they invited my principal to come. He made a speech and said I could have lost my job but being part of this journey was so worth it. I couldn’t keep it together, it was a  full circle moment!

BB411~If you weren’t a dancer and could be anything in the world, what would you be?

LVA~ A Pilot. If I make a lot of money and have a lot of time on my hands I will become a pilot. I have always dreamt of flying a plane. I love speed~ I’ve had a few of tickets (laughs). The freedom to fly through the air like a bird. I love it!

BB411~ Being a part of the Dancing with the Stars family, what has it meant to be on the show and what was your fondest memory to date?

Kelly-Osborme-waltz_300LVA~ There are a few~ My first one is season 9 with Kelly Osbourne and that journey, it wasn’t one moment it was the whole 3 months watching her grow. If I had to pick one moment with Kelly it would be our last Viennese Waltz, it was the dance we started the season with and ended it with (same dress). It was a corset dress and over the months they had to keep tightening it, there was so much ribbon at the end as she lost so much weight. We had to do an interview and we could not keep it together. We talked about the journey and how much it affected her, me and us together as a couple. The interview played just before we danced, tears were running down, she started crying and we had to go out and dance. It was a mess, there was not a dry eye in the house. That moment was like becoming champions in 19994 again. Second  moment was the Rumba with Sabrina this season, that was a similar experience. That girl opened up that week, she was a great dancer to begin with but her level changed. For a good dancer to become even better and the reaction from the audience was  incredible. We touched a lot of people through that dance. This season overall was great as everyone got along so well. The season finale we had so much fun from beginning to end. I wish there was a camera backstage during rehearsal because people would have had jaw pain from laughing so hard.129381-2934-ful-jpg_225624

BB411~ There is such raw emotion that you bring out in your partners that is such a beautiful thing to watch. That’s what makes you different. I have to throw this out there, if there is ever an opportunity where they have Dancing with the Stars for us regular folks I’m applying as your partner!

LVA~ Awwwwww, thank you. We’ve all suggested it, we want to do a season like that. Canada (CTV) should do it. I love education and if I see talent I want to bring it out, I will do anything it takes. I have a lot of patience and if I don’t get it out one way I will find another. Whether it’s sitting down talking, because often times people block growth, emotions, expression because of something that happened in life or fear of something. I always go there, I try to see where does that fear come from and then along the way I ask questions. I don’t intrude, if they want to talk about it great and if not I will wait. Then a few weeks later it comes up, you have to wait for the right time. I have a passion for that, it seems to work.

BB411~ Kelly Osbourne is my favourite transformation that happened on DWTS. She is so graceful, elegant and stunning.

LVA~ She is so well spoken and the real deal

BB411~ Tell me about La Blast?

LaBlast_1LVA~ It’s like what we talked about with the effect that happened with Kelly, my love for trying to bring out the best in people and educational dance. I just figured there are so many viewers that would love to dance that they think they can’t, they’re clumsy, uncoordinated and overweight but want to. These are self-proclaimed titles from people who bully people into thinking they’re fat, stupid, etc. I believe that there are no clumsy people, you just have to get it out of your head, start moving and the more you move bit by bit your going to learn it. The proof is in the pudding! After Kelly, that’s when I realized I’m going to turn this into a program. La Blast is partner free so you don’t have to worry about being in a group setting, having to go to the gym or class to participate. It’s an affordable alternative, the workout is in disguise. Also there are a lot of people who would never go in a group setting so I thought let’s make some DVD’s. One thing that I have done with the DVD’s that is revolutionary that no one has done before ( I insisted on it), I have turned my back to the camera so the people are all watching me from behind. It’s the easiest way to learn. If you learn in mirror and you see someone doing the right foot and you say the right foot~it’s confusing. In the tutorials in the DVD its done so anyone can learn, even the most absolute beginner. Then theres level 2 and 3 where you can challenge yourself. DVD 4 and 5 are all about if you only have 15 minutes to work out because you have a busy lifestyle or you want to focus on certain body parts (waistline, upper body, etc) we have merengue for the upper body, Jive for the butt and twists for the waistline.ml7

BB411~ In Canada La Blast classes can be taken at Steve Nash Fitness World and Sports Club?

LVA~ Yes but the nice thing SNSC did was offer training for instructors that are from other clubs and allowed them to teach somewhere else. Soon Vancouver will lots of La Blast, along with Holland, Russia and the United States. We are looking at expanding in England, Ireland and Germany!

To find a class, go to La Blast fitness and click on find a class near you. You can also go to Amazon to get the La Blast DVD collection.LaBlast DVD_covers v2

BB411~ Where do you see yourself in the next 10 years?

LVA~ On top of the hill in Hollywood flying my plane lol, no really with La Blast and developing my brand ~ that everyone in the world learns the skill of dance and uses La Blast for what ever goal they would want to fulfil. Just the enjoyment of dance, to get into the best shape of ones life, bonding with people. I have people in hollywood (the most diverse people in my class) that you would never put in one room because of social status or career status. They become friends and we go on La Blast vacations together. I have a La Blast vacations coming up in June to Cabo San Lucas. No matter what, every day we do a La Blast class and lose weight on vacation. I am also in the process of working on a clothing line for those that are wanting to get into shape and need help. A lot of companies out their right now have sizes that are good for people already in great shape. Why can’t someone who is needing to lose weight wear something flattering, colourful and comfortable.

BB411~ What inspires you professionally and personally?

LVA~ When people are passionate about what they do, if they achieve the goals they want to achieve. It doesn’t matter if its professional or a hobby, you set a goal and work through it. I was teaching a class today and I said I would rather teach a bunch of women that want to do this and are struggling to get through it and see them achieve what they want. The smile on their faces says it all. Someone who doesn’t believe who becomes a believer, you can’t put a dollar sign on that.

BB411~ What charities are you involved in that are dear to your heart?

charity-01LVA~ If you want to make big changes you have to open yourself up, so anything that focuses on anti-bullying especially for those that get bullied for physical appearance (acne, glasses, race, etc). I recommend watching the movie Lincoln, he confirms everything I believe in. I am openly gay but support organizations that cover everyone, that fight for everybody. I love how the Heart Association really fights to fight obesity. Obesity is the #1 disease in the world, beating cancer. I thought wait a minute I’m part of the #1 show, why not use dance to get obesity off the 1st place. I received a golden heart from the Heart Association on my involvement with them on our work against this fight. We are trying to connect with Michelle Obama, she’s very active with the cause.

BB411~ I loved her when she appeared on an episode of The Biggest Loser.

LVA~ Oh I’m a groupie, I love The Biggest Loser. The results with Bob, Jillian and Dolvett, what they do ~ I highly respect it!

BB411~ What does it mean to give back?

LVA~ It’s about the smaller things that make a difference. I am actually teaching a class tomorrow where it’s by donation. You can come and take a La Blast class but you have to bring something for either the Food Bank or Toys for Tots.

BB411~ What does beauty mean to you?

LVA~ Inner happiness. It sounds so cliché but it’s true! A person can be beautiful on the outside, but if they’re not happy on the inside (having blockage and unhappiness) it reflects on their true beauty.

BB411~ If you could tell your younger self something you now know (a lesson learned or wisdom gained) what would it be?

LVA~ Wow, I must say I’m glad it doesn’t come up quick, I’ve lived my life. One thing that I would change, but am also thankful for is what has happened because of other people in my life that has effected me and has put bad memories from the past into my soul. At the same time, if it weren’t for those negative experiences I wouldn’t be the person I am today and help people who are bullied because I was bullied.

BB411~ Describe your style?bl1

LVA~ Unpredictable

BB411~ Favorite Color?

LVA~ Blue

BB411~ 3 words that best describe you?

LVA~ Rebellious, Loyal and Honest

BB411~What is your skin care regime?

LVA~ Elaborate~ Kiehl’s face washKiehl’s scrub I LOVE Kiehl’s they’re great and affordable. At the same time I love my La Prairie Cavier serums. One thing I would tell young people in the entertainment industry, start thinking about creams and taking care of your skin because in the end skin is still skin (Botox aside).

BB411~ On DWTS the cast gets spray tans?

LVA~ I have never had a spray tan, I don’t get them. In the trio dance with Kelly and Val, I had shimmer on~Val challenged me to go bare!

headBB411~ What is your #1 beauty product you could not live without?

LVA~ Bert’s Bees Lip balm

BB411~ I have a perfect lip balm I want you to try, will send one your way

BB411~ Do you have any best kept beauty secrets that have been passed on down to you from either your mother or grandmother?

LVA~ No, none that I can think of except cucumber slices under your eyes when they’re puffy and tired (for those early morning call times). I do have this book on how to stretch your skin on facial exercises, it works.

BB411~ Do any certain scents remind you of your childhood?

LVA~ Lavender in the garden (reminds me of Holland)

BB411~ Favorite Cologne?

LVA~ Fierce by Abercrombie & Fitch is high on the list and Tom Ford

BB411~ Fun fact your fans may not know about you?

bl12  nl4

LVA~ I come across as very serious on the show because I take my job serious. But I’m actually a goof ball.

BB411~ Favorite Quote?

LVA~ Its more of a description “Lets be thankful that we’re all different, what would this world be if we were all the same~boring! So lets appreciate each others differences~ Louis Van Amstel”

BB411~ What advice would you give individuals/entrepreneurs following their dreams?

LVA~ One door might close, it doesn’t mean the end. You’ve just got to regroup and two doors might open, three doors might close but four others might open. You’ve just got to keep knocking at that door, every door gets you a step ahead. If you try to achieve your dream in one step ~ don’t even go for it. You must be willing to work hard because dreams are to be drafted, they are not given to you. If they’re given to you, they’re not dreams. So many people in your life would love to give you good advice, I’ve achieved what I’ve achieved now by not listening. If I listened to all the good advice I would still be in Holland and I would not have followed my dreams. People are fearful, they don’t see what you see so they will try to talk you out of it because they “care about you”, but in the end there’s a lot of jealousy behind it. If they can’t do it then you shouldn’t either, because if you can do it then they look like a failure. A lot of times parents (out of caring) want to protect you, but protect you from what-trying, jumping off an emotional cliff. I say~ jump and swim in the ocean to see if there is an island.Kelly+Osbourne+Louis+van+Amstel+dU8lW-fXfp-m

Beyonce:Life Is but a Dream

DSC02522If someone told me when I was young that I would be one day interviewing the Makeup Artist for both Oprah and The First Lady Michelle Obama, I would not have believed you. Derrick Rutledge has worked with some of the worlds biggest talents including Destiny’s Child and Beyoncé. Tonight HBO will premier the documentary, Life Is But a Dream. The documentary gives viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the notoriously private life and career of singer, entrepreneur and actress Beyoncé. Valentines Day Treats

hearts resized1Happy Valentines Day to all! Whether you are taken, single, looking, committed, today is a day that you can celebrate love with anyone or in any way. There are so many ways that people celebrate today, some go for dinner, receive flowers, pop some bubbles with girlfriends, spend quality time with family or some celebrate Anti-Valentines day and have a “Me” day. It doesn’t matter how you decide to spend it, just do something you love.

Today I take time to remember all the things I love in life, my family, friends, BB411’s Mascot Arthur and this amazing blog that has filled my heart with so much love. I am truly grateful for these past few years and all the support you all have given. It is because of the people I have in my life and all the followers/supporters of Beauty Buzz 411 that I get to wake up each day and write about what inspires me, things I love and the people who make a difference in this world.

This Valentines Day I wanted to share with you some of the great beauty finds that were must haves. First off I have been in love with hearts and anything with hearts my whole life. Whether it be home decor, clothing, pictures, jewelry, stickers, etc. One person that I absolutely adore and love her fashion sense is the beautiful Jillian Harris. Jillian is known for posting on her Site many things that have heart designs. Here are some sweaters Jillian has been seen sporting, along with a few other favorites from Wildfox Couture. Currently Jillian is relaxing in Maui with the love of her life, professional snowboarder Justin Pasutto. Coming very soon Beauty Buzz 411 will feature Justin and I can honestly tell you, you don’t want to miss this one. Justin opens up about his love for snowboarding, his family and most of all the woman who captured his heart~Jillian!

Lately I have been on this Nail Design kick and playing with a lot of different colours. Everywhere in the media from awards, music and fashion  shows, this seems to be an important piece to the fashion puzzle. I wanted to share with you some of my favourite brands and colours that are definitely Pink and Red V-Day inspired!

Sephora by OPI in “Arm Candy“, Essie in “Plumberry” and Joe Fresh in Neon Pink.

Red & Burnt Orange:

Sephora in “And a Cherry on Top“,  Dior in “Riveria“, OPI in “Big Hair…Big Nails” and Jacob in “Rouge Stiletto” and MAC in “Kid Orange

I love prepping my nails with Essie “Apricot Cuticle Oil”, OPI Top Coat and accenting my ring finger with Essie “Shine of the Times”.

I also love the new butter LONDON SPRING 2013 ‘SWEETIE SHOP’ COLLECTION. The colors remind me of  tiny heart-shaped  Sweethearts candies. They offer a stunning range of lacquers, designed by their very own Nonie Creme, and based on the season’s latest fashions. The colour palette is perfectly tailored to each and every one of us, with something for everyone. The butter LONDON team does nails for fashion shoots and stars around the world. You can find them back stage at London Fashion Week, shooting for Vogue and Harper’s, even at the MTVAwards.

It doesn’t matter whether you are pampering someone else or treating yourself this Valentine’s Day, Kerstin Florian has options for extreme relaxation that go beyond a box of chocolates, and are good for the mind, body and soul. What better way to say I love you than with caviar? Kerstin Florian’s Caviar Pure Luxury Kit features four ‘delicious’ caviar products based around nutrient-rich caviar extract known for intense moisturizing, remineralizing, regenerating and protecting properties. Not to mention a few celebrities and artists are fond of this line including Patrick and Jillian DempseyKatie HolmesMariska HargitayTilda SwintonMatt VanLeeuwen and Sonia Leeimage

  • Caviar Creme Cleanser starts the caviar indulgence perfectly. The gentle, yet incredibly effective formula rich in botanical oils and mild cleansing agents such as lactic acid removes surface debris and all traces of make up.
  • Caviar Rose Damascena Mask creates the ultimate caviar sensory experience. The natural floral rose-water envelops the senses with its fresh scent and hydrating, soothing, relaxing and toning qualities.
  • Caviar Age-Defense Cream viciously fights aging with peptides and protein-rich properties in a lightweight serum. The age-defense product provides the highest concentration of age-management properties to visibly firm and deeply hydrate the skin.
  • Caviar Night Creme  is the ultimate skin luxury. The nourishing treatment contains a collagen-synthesizing peptide complex that significantly firms and strengthens the skin during the course of the night revealing glowing and refreshed skin come morning.

Another great  gift for the bath and spa lover is Kerstin Florian’s Lavender Dreams Kit, with four relaxing bath products.image-1

  • Turkish Body Scrub with Eucalyptus scrub is based on a unique salt crystal derived from a thermal mineral source. The invigorating body scrub contains minerals and trace elements to clean the skin with the added benefits of circulation, stimulation and eucalyptus.
  • Lavender Body Spray  is a reviving, soothing and calming light oil spray with the beneficial properties of lavender, it comforts dry skin, leaving the skin appearing softer and more hydrated.
  • Lavender Eye Pillow: Close your eyes and place this pillow over them, and the gentle weight will ease tired eyes and relieve tension. The soothing scent of lavender helps to melt away and calm the senses.
  • Soothing Mineral Bath is an all natural bath combining ylang ylang, Melissa and lavender with thermal mineral salts to calm the senses and help to provide remineralizing benefits for the body.

Last but not least I could not leave out and share some of my favorite products that I discovered this Valentines Day from LUSH.

The Kiss is another first from the LUSH labs; a delicious vegan lip gloss that’s absolutely free from preservatives! With luxurious shea and cupuaçu butters, they’ve created a light balm to moisturize and protect the lips, while giving them a subtle pink glossy sheen – and a delicious almond and mandarin flavor to boot. Re-apply frequently to keep your lips plump and soft after all that kissing. It has a heavenly scent that will surely become an addiction!

Tender is the Night is the world’s first soft-centered massage bar, with a light shea and murmuru butter shell that crushes easily in the hand to reveal the almond oil, glycerine, cupuaçu and agave syrup core. This soft centre makes your massage an unforgettable, slippery, sensual experience – letting hands slide tenderly over the skin while spreading an intoxicating jasmine, ylang and vanilla perfume all over.

03050Everyone’s favorite toadstool has returned! Their enormously popular Magic Mushroom bubble bar is back again this Valentine’s Day, spreading his bubbles and soft, fruity scents everywhere he goes! His red cap contains the creamy Vanillary perfume, and is topped off with a perfectly white stem of fresh strawberries. Lay back in his enchanting waters and allow a spell of relaxation to wash over you. Although sharing a Valentine’s bath can be very enjoyable, you may not have mush-room for anyone else with this fungi!03051

When love isn’t a factor in your Valentine’s Day, it’s okay to indulge your wicked streak and celebrate the cynical! With the same vanilla-musk scent as their Butterball Bath Bomb, The Ex-Factor is especially fun for those of you who have a thirst for revenge. Pay no mind to the endless stream of cards, candy hearts and pink balloons around you, and drop our little blue man of bath time voodoo in your tub instead. Delight in watching his limbs dissolve one by one, into the calming, deep blue water until finally (finally!) his little heart explodes into a thousand tiny pieces, only to be washed down the drain into nothingness. Revenge satisfied!
What did you do this Valentines Day to indulge?

Mani Cam at the Grammy’s

M_GrammyAwards2013WorldIsListeningIn previous posts I have featured posts on awards and music shows and expressed how in love I am with the beauty, fashion and most of all nail art creations. This year at the 55th Annual Grammy Awards E Online provided all the latest nail fashion with their Mani Cam. They actually had two Mani Cam’s where artists showed off how they expressed their creativity and style.

Some of my favourite nails from the red carpet came from JLo (Favorite pictured), Rihanna (Favorite pictured) Carly Rae Jepsen, Katy Perry and Janelle Monae.

rihanna-grammys_510x348  maniJ

photo-7I recently saw on twitter Miranda Lambert had this picture on her profile, I went crazy for the design. I have started collecting pictures on Pinterest for inspiration and my biggest addiction is tiny little bows. I am definitely getting more creative and adventurous with my nail colors and accent colours. Here is a list of some of my favourite finds.

Blues~ Essie “Mint Candy Apple“, Essie “Go Overboard” and Dazzle Dry “Blueberry Sno Cone

Bronze/Metallics ~ Essie Repstyle in “A Hypnotic Desert Bronze” and Victoria Secret “Steal the Show

Glitters/Sparkles~ Victoria Secret (Glitter) “Break the Rules“, Deborah Lippmann “Stairway to Heaven” and Sephora by OPI in “Beam Me Up Hottie!” & “Come to Pappa-razzi!

Here are some of my favorite picks for show stopping fashion: Alicia Keys, Rihanna, JLo, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, Kelly Rowland and  Carly Rae Jepsen

I think this years Grammy’s brought some amazing performances from Taylor Swift, fun, Mumford & Sons, The Lumineers and more. My top performances would have to go to Rihanna, Justin Timberlake and Carrie Underwood.

Rihanna rocked it on stage with her performance of “Stay” along side Mikky Ekko and later took the stage with Bruno Mars, Sting and Ziggy Marley for a Bob Marley Tribute collaboration. Her fashion and style was bang on all show and the new long locks looked beautiful on her!

Grammys-2013-Alicia-Keys-Maroon-5-Perform-VideoI loved the collaboration between Adam Levine and Alicia Keys with “Girl on Fire” and Justin Timberlake owned the stage with his electrifying performance of “Suit and Tie“.

Carrie Underwood though took the cake, her hologram dress was stunning as it projected images of stars, roses and butterflies. Her performance of “Blown Away” and “Two Black Cadillacs”  left me wanting more. Carrie always has top style on the red carpet and blows us away with her performances on stage. She always brings her A game.
